Understanding Your Mental Health What is Depression?

Sadness is a normal reaction to some of life’s struggles. However, when the feelings of overwhelming sadness, hopelessness, despair, emptiness, and isolation don’t go away, this can be a sign of depression. Depression symptoms make it challenging to function as they interfere with and make it difficult to enjoy many of the activities you once did. Knowing the signs, symptoms, causes, and how to deal with depression is the first step to defeating the problem. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy together, we will focus on and work towards healing and improving your depression symptoms. 

Signs & Symptoms of Depression

  • Difficulty getting/staying asleep or sleeping too much

  • Loss of energy

  • Overwhelming negative thoughts about yourself and life in general

  • Feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, worthlessness

  • Concentration problems

  • Loss of appetite or a significant increase of appetite (weight loss or weight gain)

  • Increased irritability

  • Increased substance use

  • Thoughts about suicide or self-harm
