A Transformative Perspective on Mental Health My Approach

I believe therapy is not about a diagnosis. It’s for people who want more out of life and who are ready to move beyond the past to truly understand their value and worth. I take great pride in helping individuals in Yakima and across Washington overcome difficult life circumstances and manage anxiety, depression and trauma.

A Brief Overview of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Supporting You Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

As you explore your options for mental health support, you will likely encounter many different types of therapy. At Delia Counseling Services, I support my clients through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

What is CBT?

CBT is a type of talk therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to mental health problems. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that by changing one, we can affect the others. I specialize in supporting adults facing anxiety, depression, and trauma, and therapy for women who want to increase their confidence.

We’ll start by identifying and shifting negative Thought Patterns

I often work with women who find themselves unable to stop their self-critical thoughts that, by the time they come to see me, have become detrimental to their self-worth and self-esteem. They often feel anxious and experience self-doubt as a result of their negative self-talk, which tends to lead to struggles in their relationships as well. They might also face depressive symptoms like feeling detached from themselves and others, experiencing emotional and physical fatigue, and enduring periods of sadness.

Together, we’ll work to identify negative thought patterns, such as catastrophizing, overgeneralizing, or black-and-white thinking, that are causing or contributing to a negative mindset. These thoughts may be irrational, exaggerated, or the result of anxiety, depression, trauma or low self-esteem.

Once negative thought patterns have been identified, we will challenge them. This involves examining the evidence for and against the negative thought, and replacing it with a more balanced, realistic thought.

Coping skills and tools that will Support Your Healing Process

I will provide specific tools and strategies that you can use to cope with tough situations and manage intrusive or negative thoughts. As you continue through the therapy process, these coping skills will become second nature so that you can rely on them to work through problems.

Communication skills will help you put words to what you’re feeling and Help Your Relationships Thrive

In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you will learn to more effectively communicate your emotions, desires, goals, and needs. This can support your understanding of yourself and also improve communication with others in your life. By improving communication skills, CBT can help clients develop stronger and more fulfilling interpersonal relationships. This can lead to improved self-esteem and a greater sense of well-being.

By focusing on solutions, I will support you in reaching your goals

I draw from Solution-Focused Therapy (SFBT) where appropriate. SFBT empowers people to create positive change in their lives and asserts that they already possess the resources and strengths necessary to achieve their goals. In sessions together, we will identify these strengths so that you can have a clear vision and plan for how you will reach the aspirations you have for your life. In therapy for confidence, we will work to build your self-esteem so you can finally follow through.

Uncovering underlying issues so you can Finally Move Forward

Through examining your experiences and core beliefs, we will uncover underlying issues you may not have addressed or even realized existed. I will support you in identifying potential solutions to problems and we will collaboratively form goals and a plan for moving forward. After this step, many clients feel more free and confident to pursue a more fulfilling life.
